Upcoming Shows:
MARCH 7-IN THE VENUE: THE VANDALS
Classic punk rock-with some irreverent humor.
MARCH 8-E CENTER: COHEED AND CAMBRIA
Ok, so they are actually supporting Linkin' stupid Park, which is horribly embarrassing to admit and puts a negative shadow on them for doing such, but the good part is I get to review the show for free via SLUG and get to leave right after Coheed finishes and before the garbage starts!
MARCH 24-IN THE VENUE: EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY
I don't get into too much instrumental music, but these guys have talent.
APRIL 11-CLUB SOUND: THE UNSEEN
I wish these guys would have been around when I was in middle school and high school because they easily would have been a staple in my earlier youth. Regardless, I'm glad they're out now and I'm aware. The Unseen eat, sleep and breath punk rock. And thanks to Jesse for adding my photo to the flyer for this show!
APRIL 16-IN THE VENUE: THE BOUNCING SOULS
The first time I saw these guys in 1996 or 1997, the singer spelled out lyrics from a song w/ this body and appendages. I was blown away at the bands' overall stage presence and immediately fell in love with them. Hilarious bunch of guys.
APRIL 18-CLUB SOUND: TIME AGAIN
Touring in support of their second album, Darker Days, these guys will hit the stage and rock your socks off. This is a band to keep your eye on, their musical growth from last album to this new one is amazing! And what makes it all even better is they are all the nicest dudes ever!

Just a Rant...and a Really Great Song
Disclaimer: this is me rambling and ending somewhat mushy, but whatever.
So lately I've been thinking a lot about life, about the past and about the future. While at times I long for the past (who doesn't!) and the seemingly carefree days of my earlier youth, I also find myself excited (and nervous) for the future I have ahead of me. A lot of things are uncertain for me right now. I have a good, steady job, but doubt I will make the music industry my lifelong career, I have a print journalism degree that I dabble around with by volunteering my time to SLUG Magazine and I have a fledgling of a photography business that I love and pursue in any extra time I have.
In the recent past I have been nervous about what my future holds for me, but for the present, I feel confident in myself and in my options. The best personal reassurance a person can have is self-confidence. I also take comfort in the life I have ahead of me with my best friend-my wife. Throughout my life I've created a lot of problems for myself by thinking too much or reading too much into things, but this time my thoughts have led me to a wonderful state of mind. While typing away at work not more than a few moments ago and listening to my Billy Joel mix, I sat back and listened to the words and stopped working for a second while I absorbed each word. As I soaked in the words and tone of the song it seemed to be a culmination of the conclusion my thoughts, as of late, have brought me to and also expressed my feelings and inspiration for the future and how I can get to where I need to be-one word: Hallie.
Billy Joel: This is the Time
We walked on the beach beside that old hotel
They're tearing it down now
But it's just as well
I haven't shown you everything a man can do
So stay with me baby
I've got plans for you
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
Cause we won't
Although we'll want to
This is the time
But time is gonna change
You've given me the best of you
And now I need the rest of you
Did you know that before you came into my life
It was some kind of miracle that I survived
Some day we will both look back
And have to laugh
We lived through a lifetime
And the aftermath
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
Cause we won't
Although we want to
This is the time
But time is gonna change
I know we've got to move somehow
But I don't want to lose you know
Sometimes it's so easy
To let a day
Slip on by
Without even seeing each other at all
But this is the time you'll turn back and so will I
And those will be the days you can never recall
And so we embrace again
Behind the dunes
This beach is cold
On winter afternoons
But holding you close is like holding the summer sun
I'm warm from the memory of days to come
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
But we won't
Although we'll want to
This is the time
But time is gonna change
You've given me the best of you
But now I need the rest of you

Kids these days
I am the Activity Day leader in our ward, which means I spend two nights a month doing activities with the 8 to 12 year old girls. We had a game night last night which went really well we played bingo then moved on to a twister tournament, and then had about 20 minutes before we were done so the girls wanted to do a talent show(I love when they come up with their own ideas). Three of the girls started singing this rap song about dropping it "Low low low" and doing a dance too, then the next act was a dance/song called "Soldier Boy". We soon realized that there would have to be a few ground rules for this talent show! We announced no rap and moved on with the show. I was pretty stunned that all these young girls knew these songs word for word and had dance moves to go along with them. I guess I shouldn't have been so shocked, last activity I drove a few of the girls home and they told me my music sucked, and asked if I had any rap.

Video of the Week
Yes, I've taken notice that I've been the only one who has commented on these videos. Quite frankly, it doesn't bother me that nobody else pays attention to these Flight of the Conchords music videos I've been posting the last several weeks because I plan to keep posting them. Why then you may ask? Well, it's simple really, the show is pure genius-plain and simple. One day you'll see that too. Promise.

Happy Valentine's Day...
...to my lovely wife!
5 Things I Love About Hallie: (in no particular order)
1. She understands all my quirks and appreciates how they make me who I am. ie: my love and fascination with skulls and skeletons, my extreme fondness for music-even if it's music she doesn't like, the fact that I enjoy 80s movies, select horror flicks, etc.
2. Her love for the Gospel and the dedication she has for her church callings and anything else she is asked to do or volunteers for.
3. Her beauty both inside and out.
4. Her kind nature and disposition.
5. The love and patience she shows for me.
Hallie-I Love You!
Also on this Valentine's Day I'd like to share a short story as a word of advice to those who are getting married or newly married and may not have learned this lesson about women yet:
Our first Valentine's Day as a married couple Hallie and I decided that we weren't going to do gifts for each other. We had only been married 3-4 months, were living in a crappy basement apartment in Logan and living in the college rut. Those were all the reasons we decided not to, but as I remember we had also just spent a lot of money on something and deemed it our gift to each other. Per our conversation about this and our decision we had made, I didn't get anything, not a card, not a flower-nothing. I thought about getting something anyway, but didn't want her to feel bad if she held to what we'd decided and really didn't get anything for me. This didn't go well. There were some hurt feelings on her part and some confusion on my part. Needless to say, on that first Valentine's Day, I learned that even if a woman says not to get her something-anything at all-you darn well better get something, anything, just in case, because it's the thought that counts! Guys-we don't think or feel in the same way women do, especially when it comes to sentimental things, remember that.
