I owe a lot ot music, as many who have followed this blog have found out over time. Besides the Gospel of Jesus Christ and my family, nothing else has impacted my life more.
When I was around 12 or so I found punk rock. In high school I expanded my punk rock facet into hardcore, an offshoot and heavier style of punk rock. For the most part, until college, punk rock and hardcore were my staples in music. Though the music is brash on the face, much of it has a very positive message and often a message of taking control of your life, developing morals and being a good person. Once I had what I call, my enlightening, and began listening to other styles of music outside of punk and hardcore, I gravitated to many styles of music, some similar, some that couldn't be farther from what I grew up with. Since the "enlightening," it has been interesting to compare different kinds of music-their similarites, differences and everything else.
What draws us to music? For some it's the sound, for others it's the lyrics or the message, maybe a combination of both or completely different factors altogether. I thought it would be interesting to post some lyrics from different bands and genres of music and have people post comments with what genre they think the lyrics belong to. Because of people's stereotypes of what they don't know, I thought this might be something of a learning experience.
Below are the song quotes. In your comment, put your guess next to the corresponding number for each quote. The genres to choose from are: folk, country, punk, hardcore, church, rock/metal
