Differences Aside

Since Proposition 8, Latter-day Saints and other faiths have put up with protesters and in many cases vandalism and harassment. People have a right to voice their opinion on public matters, especially when the matter at hand has the possibility of affecting sacredly held beliefs and values. Protesters have every right to protest what they do not agree with and likewise LDS and other faiths have every right to educate people on their vote and to consequently vote the way they see fit, which makes it very ironic that they have become the subject of not just protests but hostility for exercising their right to vote and make their voice heard. To be ridiculed for participating in the democratic process is wrong and to have acts of hate, vandalism and harassment come as a result of participating in the democratic process our country was founded upon is a gross absurdity.

This post is not meant to stir people up and cause arguments or debates, it is simply my thoughts on a matter and to inform people of something I thought was a breath of fresh air. So if you wish to debate, debate elsewhere, this is not the place for it. Below is a full page ad this organization put in the New York Times today in support of LDS and other religious groups who supported Prop 8. What I have posted is too small to read, but you can read it here.

Thanks for putting clearly into words my somewhat jumbled thoughts on the matter. I find it ironic that these bigots who are lashing out at the LDS Church are doing so in the name of "basic Civil rights."

This is becoming, and I believe will continue to become, a very heated battle. I don't live in UT, so I haven't seen all the repurcussions, but the Denver Temple was vandalized and there was a Book of Mormon burning outside a church, and one church even had a bomb threat- so we are feeling some affects here as well, and it is really sad. I suppose it is easy to simply blame one group, which appears to be happening. It is wonderful, though, to see other people standing up and defending us- I don't think this battle is anywhere close to over, and in my very humble opinion, I think we will need to work with people of all faiths to "win" this issue. Should be a very interesting next couple of years in this regard!

Thank you James! Awesome resource.

I would recommend all to read it. I'm only a 1/4 of the way through it as I type this, but it is very clear and to the point and covers every angle.
