HALLOWEEN

Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine. There's something about the weather getting cooler and chilling you to the bone, the changing of the leaves, the decorations and of course, the costumes.

I have such fond memories of this time of year, maybe a lot of it comes from Halloween kicking off the start of the holiday season too. I remember doing Halloween assignments in school in October and there was nothing better than trick-or-treating! And let's face it, skeletons and all the mascots of Halloween are so gruesomely awesome!

What are some of your favorite childhood memories of Halloween and/or what do you still love about it?

Watching movies with you guys a couple years back. Remember?

p.s. I just voted on your poll and have to add a disclaimer: I almost peed myself because (and it's a BIG because) I had never heard anything about the movie and went in cold turkey. Then I had my boots blown off, as Curtis would say. If I had heard all the scariest-movie-ever hype, it might not have had the same effect. That's all.

Ali-
Yes, I remember that! It was really fun/funny! Wish we could do it this year too :(

Jeremy, I'm loving the new poll.

Weren't you way bitter because you missed out on the movie event of the year so when you finally watched it you pretended it was lame?

Awesome.

That is a great poll, and I'll admit it scared the bajeebers out of me.

I remember the Halloween parade at school was my favorite. I loved funny, creative, home made costumes the best.

Brad-
I saw it up in Logan a few days after most of you saw it for the first time and it was/is lame. Creepy maybe, but scary no. Coming from a horror film expert such as yourself I've always been stunned that you, of all people, thought it was so scary. Maybe perplexed is a better way to describe it.

Jesse-
I agree, the school Halloween parades were the best. You could always tell which kids did their costumes themselves and which kids just let their parents dress them up how they wanted. Hilarious.

What is Cambria going to be this year?

Ben/Christina-

Good question-we've been so brain dead since she came, that we haven't had a chance to think too hard about it. We bought a pea pod costume for her a long time ago, but it's way too big for her still :(

So Halloween never used to be a favorite for me... mostly because I was never allowed to go trick-or-treating to more than a couple of doors while everyone else ran off to hit them all. But now having my son's B-day be the 30th has made this the best holiday ever!
I do remember one year passing out candy at the door when I was about 9. A kid in my grade came to the door and pushed me down and took the whole bowl of candy, then tore off down the street. My older sister happened to be in the room and saw it all happen. In a split second she was out the door and running down the street after the kid. She tackled him on the pavement and punched his daylights out.

I ended up with the candy bowl and candy back in my hand in about 5 minutes flat. This turned out to be a good little training session for me, because not long after this incident, I caught this same kid throwing punches at my extremely timid little brother on the playground at school. With Halloween night visions flashing through my head I made lighting speed towards my brother. All I remember is that my rage left this kid face down in the dirt with a bloody nose.
Honestly that's about my only childhood Halloween memory. Kinda long, I know.

Suzy-
No trick-or-treating? I'm so sorry! That must've been really traumatizing! I LIVED for trick-or-treating. I think that's why I was born.

And wow...I never saw you being the fightin' type, but when it's for the sake of defending someone, I can see you giving it your all. Awesome story, thanks for sharing!
